Restrepo
During the movie, hearing the bullets flying by the camera and the explosions gave me a better understanding of what it sounds like to be in a firefight. Also, in the movie the cameras never show the enemy, only the americans shooting at them. This is also like the book because the soldiers dont really know the enemy but only know each other. During the movie at rock avalanche a soldier is killed, and another soldier brakes into tears during a fight. This made me think more about death and that it really can affect other soldiers mentally. In the book, soldiers spend a lot of time sitting around and when they hear its time to go on a patrol, they seem genuinly excited but also scared. This is also seen a lot in the movie. The soldiers also need to find ways to have fun. In the movie they do this by playing songs on their ipods and dancing. In the book they play volleyball. The soldiers also enjoy getting kills from long range. In the movie the soldiers start cheering when they killed a taliban soldier. In the book when Perry kills a Vietnamese soldier from close up it really seems to affect him. Just like in the movie when the soldier paused after he said he had killed one of them. In the movie you see soldiers lifting weights or running. This is also in the book when the soldiers need to keep in shape. Perry and Peewee were stuck on their own in the spider hole. They had no backup, and at O.P Restrepo they couldn't get help in time if they were overrun. Perry and Peewee were extremely excited to get out of the constant fighting and to finally be going home. In the movie the soldiers were estatic to leave their base and finally to go back to the world.
